FPSC Preparation: Guide, Notes & Updates

Federal Public Service Commission

Preparation guidance for CSS, one-paper screening tests and other FPSC-conducted federal recruitment exams.

The Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) conducts CSS as well as a wide range of other federal recruitment exams and tests — including one-paper screening tests, subject-specialist posts, and various federal government vacancies. Test formats vary by post, from MCQ-based screening tests to written papers and interviews.

How FPSC Recruitment Works

FPSC recruits for federal government posts, and it also conducts the Central Superior Services (CSS) competitive examination. Other federal posts are filled through screening tests, subject-specific written papers and interviews, depending on the post. Federal recruitment also follows merit and regional or provincial quota rules, so the advertisement for your post should be read closely for domicile and quota conditions.

What to Study

CSS aspirants follow the published CSS syllabus with its compulsory and optional subjects, which is covered in the MOCC CSS preparation guide. For other FPSC tests, the common ground is English, general knowledge, Pakistan affairs, Islamiat, current affairs and everyday science, plus the subject of the post itself. For specialist posts, depth in your own subject usually matters more than breadth elsewhere.

A Practical Study Plan

  • Decide the target first: CSS, a screening test, or a specific federal post.
  • Build a subject-wise schedule with fixed weekly revision slots.
  • Practise past-pattern MCQs for screening-stage tests and writing for descriptive papers.
  • Follow national and international current affairs daily and keep short notes.

How to Read an FPSC Advertisement Before You Prepare

The advertisement is the real syllabus-setter, so read it before you buy a single book. Check these items in order: the post title and pay scale; the required qualification and any experience condition; the age limit and any relaxation; domicile and quota conditions; the stages of selection (screening test, written paper, interview); the application method, fee and closing date; and whether the commission has published a syllabus or test pattern for that post. If the pattern is not in the advertisement, look for it on the commission’s official website instead of relying on forum posts. MOCC does not state a pattern or marking scheme for any post unless the commission has published it.

FPSC, PPSC or CSS: Which Preparation Do You Need?

The three overlap in English, general knowledge and current affairs, but they test differently. CSS is a long, written competitive examination, so start with the CSS preparation guide and the English essay guide. An FPSC screening test for a federal post is usually a time-limited objective paper, so its preparation looks more like One Paper preparation. Provincial posts are advertised by the provincial commission, for example PPSC for Punjab. Choose the page that matches the post you are actually applying for, and do not spread the same hours across all three.

A Four-Week Routine for an Objective Screening Test

Week 1 – diagnose. Attempt one timed set of general knowledge and English MCQs from the MCQ Centre without notes, and list every topic where you guessed. Week 2 – fill the gaps. Read the General Knowledge guide and the Pakistan Affairs guide for the topics you flagged, and write one-line notes. Week 3 – practise under time. Do timed sets daily and review each wrong answer by writing why the right option is right. Week 4 – revise and simulate. Reread your own notes, revise current affairs, and sit full-length timed papers from the Test Series. Adjust the weeks to the time you actually have before the test date.

If you are unsure which route fits your qualification and target post, send the advertisement to the MOCC team on WhatsApp and ask for guidance on a study order.

Mistakes to Avoid

Treating all federal tests as one syllabus is the most common mistake. CSS, screening tests and subject-specialist papers differ in pattern and depth. Another is leaving English and writing practice to the end, even though both decide results in many descriptive papers.

Use these alongside the official advertisement: the free one-paper notes, the MCQ Centre, the Digital Library, Current Affairs, the Age & Eligibility Calculator and the Test Series. New vacancies are listed on Latest Jobs with their official closing dates.

MOCC is an independent private academy. It is not part of any public service commission, and no academy can guarantee selection. The official advertisement is always the final authority on eligibility, syllabus, fee and deadline.

How MOCC Supports FPSC Aspirants

MOCC provides preparation guidance, notes and current affairs coverage for FPSC-conducted tests, along with updates on federal job advertisements as they are announced.
