MOCC arithmetic from the official table

Adding the official marks together: the written examination carries 325 MCQ marks (Papers I and II plus 25 in each of Papers VI to X) and 775 subjective marks, which makes 1100. Practise both formats, because the MCQ and subjective skills are tested separately.

The Mental Ability & Reasoning Test (Paper II)

Paper II is an MCQ paper of 100 marks covering four areas named by PPSC: logical and analytical reasoning, quantitative and numerical processing, reading and verbal comprehension, and decision-making and problem-solving. PPSC states that the qualifying marks will be 33% with negative marking in the forthcoming CCE, and that this may be revised on the basis of analysis. Because a qualifying threshold applies, treat Paper II as a paper you must clear, not one you can leave for the end.

PMS Study Resources: English, Current Affairs and Books

Whatever the final syllabus detail, PMS candidates need strong English writing and current affairs. Start with the English essay writing guide and the precis and composition guide, then read how to pass the CSS, PMS and PPSC English essay paper. For current affairs, see how to prepare current affairs for CSS, PMS, PPSC and FPSC, and browse the MOCC Bookshelf for original book summaries. Exploring the federal exam too? Read CSS preparation in Pakistan.

How to Use the Syllabus: A Practical PMS Study Method

The official syllabus tells you what is examined; your method decides how well you cover it. Download the paper-wise PDFs from the official syllabus page, then turn each paper into a checklist of topics, and mark every topic red, amber or green by how confident you are. Spend most of your hours on red and amber topics, and keep green topics alive with short weekly revision. Re-score yourself every two weeks so the plan follows your actual progress.

Match Each Paper Type to the Right Practice

Writing papers (essay, precis and composition, and other descriptive papers). Practise under time with a clear structure, then compare your answer with the question, not just with a model. Use the English Essay guide, the Precis and Composition guide and the English Preparation Guide for grammar and vocabulary. Content papers. Build one-page revision notes per topic and connect them to current events through the Pakistan Affairs guide, the International Affairs guide and the Current Affairs Centre. Objective and reasoning papers. Train speed and accuracy with timed sets in the MCQ Centre, and keep an error log. Because official guidance for the Mental Ability & Reasoning Test had not been published when this page was last checked, watch the PPSC site and our update note above rather than relying on unofficial pattern claims. General knowledge. Follow the General Knowledge guide and revise it in short cycles.

Mock Tests and Revision Cycles

Use mocks to find weak areas, not to chase a score. Sit a full timed paper, review every error, write the corrected answer, and schedule the weak topic for revision within a week. Move to full-length papers once you have covered most of the syllabus once. In the final stretch, reduce new reading and rotate your one-page notes. The Test Series is growing and is still at an early stage, so supplement it with past-pattern practice from the MCQ Centre.

PMS or CSS: Which Should You Prepare First?

Many aspirants prepare for both, since English, Pakistan Affairs and current affairs overlap. The two are conducted by different commissions and have different syllabi, age and attempt rules, so decide by your eligibility and target service. Check your position with the Age & Eligibility Calculator, read the CSS preparation guide for comparison, and ask the MOCC team on WhatsApp if you want help planning. The free notes, the Digital Library and Admissions are the next steps. MOCC does not guarantee selection.

PMS by Province

PMS is administered separately by each province's public service commission, and eligibility, exam structure and subject lists can differ between provinces and change over time. This page covers Punjab (PPSC). Explore MOCC's guidance for the other provinces:

PMS preparation also overlaps with CSS preparation in essay, English and current affairs, and with PPSC recruitment exams in general knowledge and Pakistan affairs.
